Thought I would open a discussion about everyone's favorite horror films. Some of you might not be as big of a fan of the genre as I am, but I am curious to hear your favorites....
p.s. I watched "John Carpenter's The Thing" last night on hulu and forgot that it is a damn good movie.

In no particular order...
Halloween, An American Werewolf in London, Dawn of the Dead (1978), The Thing....
It is a sad state of affairs for horror films when I cant name a single movie after 1990.
I confess that I haven't seen very many of IMDB's top 50 horror. Of those, I've seen "The Exorcist" and "The Birds." I actually fell asleep watching "The Birds", but I really enjoyed the opening.
Of the recent years, I suppose that I would nominate "Signs" and "28 Days Later". "Signs" probably would not survive a second viewing. "28 Days" was (so far as things go) terrifying.
Vince, I actually watched "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" on Hulu last night (while dealing with a crying daughter.)
I remember being terrified of it when I was a kid and not watching it since. It's great! and not too terrifying!
Close Encounters is a really fun movie, and has the most memorable mashed potatoes movie scene ever.
Normally, I can't stand any kind of scariness in movies (I screamed aloud in the theater when the Beast came down the stairs in Disney's Beauty & the Beast); however, I have seen Silence of the Lambs over 100 times...it's sort of scary. :)
I have to say, I was very, very frightened the first time I watched Silence; it's the climatic basement scene that freaked me out.
Erin, why have you seen that movie so much?
