I actually really like Vince's idea, but I'm afraid Powell's credibility is permanently damaged in the eyes of the international community (and possibly domestically, as well.)
If I were a Democrat, I would think I would like to reward a party stalwart. Therefore, I would go with Sen. Carl Levin (MI), Boxer/Feinstein (CA) or Dodd. There must be rewards for sticking with party orthodoxy in the tough-for-Dems Bush years (2002-2005).
That being said, I am not a Democrat. I would like to see Biden, because he is most likely to provide the best quips and gaffes. The man is a walking mouth w/o ears -- that would be awesome.
As for me, I stand by my long held assertion that specifically who isnt as important as overall profile: 50-55, white, male, clinton supporter, and one with international experience. That leaves several options, but the profile is more important from a practicality perspective

Colin Powell..
Call me crazy, but this will prove that Obama's "CHANGE" motto. Also, this will give Powell his shot at redemption after the UN fiasco in 2003.
John McCain.
It is more appropriate than his current aspirations.
Michael Phelps.

I think I called it. Do be sure to look up "Neil Kinnock" on Wikipedia.
But I think Chris called it as well.
