I love public schools.

Doubtless, you all have heard of the kidz singing the praises of President Obama. While it is obviously a tiny tempest in a very small teacup, the following lyrics are a little annoying:

"He said red, yellow, black or white / All are equal in his sight
Mmm, mmm, mm! / Barack Hussein Obama"

The lyricist is no Jay-Z. I think what rankles most is that it is a stolen line from a rather trite children's Sunday School song, "Jesus Loves the Little Children." I much preferred the spontaneous "Obama's Going To Change the World" hit* of 2008 -- now those were good lyrics.

*BTW, where's my frickin' happiness?

As a savvy source points out, back in 2006 children from Gulf Coast states serenaded First Lady Laura Bush with a song praising the President, Congress, and Federal Emergency Management Agency for their response to -- of all things -- Hurricane Katrina. The lyrics were as follow:

Our country's stood beside us People have sent us aid. Katrina could not stop us, our hopes will never fade. Congress, Bush and FEMA People across our land Together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand!

RET: His response to Katrina showed Bush was out of touch and lacked any compassion for people of different circumstance, in turn, the "fringe" (Kanye) called him a racist, but the act of these children prompted by some adult was NOT compared to communism or fascism. We are in a downward spiral and the Right is more than happy to take every opportunity to pick up speed.

Wow, Rich, defensive much? I fail to see where I mentioned "communism or fascism." Too much Michael Savage again?

On the merits, Rich, I'm sure you see the difference between a song that's clearly "unifying" baloney (the country loves us, nothin's gonna stop us now) and a song that is in praise of a specific politician and his "great accomplishments." Seeing as how the assembly and song in question was in February, I'm at a bit of a loss to list the President's "great accomplishments."

Can we at least agree that, in general, we should stop the stupid tradition of having kids sing in a group to/about specific modern politicians? It's not like the country's lacking in patriotic songs that could be sung in their place.* I'd be willing to kill assemblies in general, but I'm guessing the moms of the world would object.

BTW, downward spiral? Care to elaborate?

*Something that was not lost on our unknown lyricist, who appropriated the Battle Hymn of the Republic for her grand finale.

You post garbage and your get garbage comments.

Which one of us is being defensive? Did you watch the news Jim? Did listen to conservative congress? Even your man Huckabee has turned out to be a sellout. Thats were you see comments about communism and fascism associated with the current administration. By the way "YOU LIE"

I realize you are so much better than me Jim although I haven't see you challenging any of Mike's referencing material.

I have clearly struck a nerve. For that, I sincerely apologize.

Rich, why are you dragging me in on this. I didn't say anyhing.... Though you do seem a little upset in your comments, I read Jim's posts and I'm not sure he said anything that provocative.

Here my perspective:
The video has been used by political commentators AND politicians to further their claims of indoctrination of America's youth. It was a congressman who had a poster of Communist/Acorn Obama on the floor of the House the other day NOT Michael Savage or Sean Hannity.

I didn't buy the "public schools" anecdote because their are a lot more blatant examples of incompetent teachers in the public school system. In fact, if public schools don't utilize Obama's election as a means to discuss civil rights, a topic not discussed during my secondary education, it would be a shame. Songs and other art are pretty standard ways of incorporating educational topics to young children. Wait to see what kid's do on Earth Day. It is a shame that every topic has been politicized.

The fact that some elementary school teacher feels that anyone who has become president probably has a list of great accomplishments doesn't bother me. Of course, this teacher is clearly not on the Arizona State Board of Trustees. Of course, the fair pay act, expansion of SCHIP, and the opening up of NIH funds for ESC research might have had some influence. But then again, he did nothing as a Senator.

Jim basically dismissed my comments as defensive and from a crappy source. Mike, you were only mentioned because you have, on occasion, used political commentary to support your ideas.
