Resolved: Barack Obama is no better in verbally dealing with the press than George W. Bush.

The fact that I had a calendar on my desk with "Bushisms" should prove who has a better command of the English language...

@Bruce, you can bet the Obama version will come soon.

I take pleasure in listening to the President's YouTube address; they're logical and they don't have Bush's odd intonation. However, I'm surprised at how closely Obama's speech pattern when dealing with the press is similar to my own: awkward pauses, stops, starts, uhs, etc. It sounds like he's thinking while he's talking, which the press is willing to cut him some slack for.

I tend to doubt that he'll get better. He's 47 years old -- speech patterns are set by then.

It's worth noting that Bush's speech patterns, people have said, have actually gotten worse since he started out in 1994. They speculate that what we heard as he was president was what he thought a president was supposed to sound like. Ooops.
