Week 12, a.k.a. Jim's terrible predictive powers

On September 10, I posted boring NFL predictions, as follows:

"1. The Colts? 9-7 and do not win the AFC South.
2. The Patriots do not go to the Superbowl.
3. The Vikings? Do not make the playoffs."

Well, that didn't work out so well. Basically, all three are incorrect. Well, that's why I don't put money on these sorts of things.

That being said, I have a really hard time imagining that the Colts will go to the Superbowl, much less win it all.

O.K. One more question: what's more likely? The health care reform package passing Congress before the Superbowl or the NFC winning the Superbowl? I'm thinking this is a pretty good prop bet.

Finally a football topic!

If not the Colts, who makes the Superbowl from the AFC? The Colts will almost certainly have home field advantage in the playoffs (and the addition of artificial crowd noise), and have the best QB in the league behind center.

Another contender who I am not sold on are the San Diego Chargers. I will never commit to a Norv Turner coached team because they are soft like butter.

Oh, I'll punt and say the Steelers -- as much as I won't enjoy it. I'd much rather see Indy or the Bengals.

I can't imagine SD making it all the way, but I can't really stand Philip Rivers, so that's probably affecting my judgment.

Honestly, it is really hard to like any player on the Chargers.

LT appears to be a pretty decent guy, and it's nice to see him having an ok season, but that's about it.

Olshanky was fun, but a little ridiculous.

Jim, I wouldn't say all three of your predictions were false just yet. I still think the Patriots could put together a good enough run to make it to the Superbowl. Their first game will be at home and from there who knows. I would agree, I can't see the Colts making it to the Superbowl especially since they may rest everybody for the last couple of games. A strategy that has worked so well for them in the past.

Forget the NFL, the real game this weekend is in Jim's home state. Let the "Civil War" begin! Then Vince gets to start talking trash about the winner as they get ready to play Ohio State.

I am a firm believer in Ohio State's "run, run, pass, punt" offensive strategy. Whoever wins the civil war better get ready to have the ball ran on them 50 times.

Dave, you seriously think the Pats are as good as their previous models? Their defense looks downright slow, and their offense seems to not want to run the football. I don't care what "experts" say, running the ball and playing good defense is the formula to winning playoff games.

If the Ducks win, of course, Vince and I will have to have some sort of blog-related bet.

The last game I saw with the Patriots was the Colts game, where the Pats defense looked just fine. (ok, until Manning started to torch them.) It was the offense that looked a little anemic.

I see them making it into at least the divisional round, and maybe even the AFC championship game.

P.S. On the 4th and 2? It was a bad spot.
